Weekend Recap

This was my first weekend back to normal post the holidays.  All of my Christmas decorations are down and I didn’t have any plans.  Well Friday I had plans, but they got cancelled due to the weather.  After “The Big Freeze”, the weather warmed up a bit around here.  Late Friday afternoon, we got rain, that quickly made the roads icy and cars freeze shut.

After work, I ran to a few stores picked up groceries that I needed and ran to TJMaxx and picked up a Dutch Oven. I have to say that this is one of the prettiest pans I have.  I didn’t want to get it dirty but I’m glad I was able to break it in!  I feel the need to name her…

So my plans for Friday were to make dinner for a friend and then hang out with him. I made dinner, in hopes that the roads weren’t too bad. For dinner I made Baked Mostaccioli.  I pared it with some Hallowine from Door Peninsula Winery.

Saturday I tooled around the house.  I folded some laundry, watched the Marquette v. Seton Hall, I did a little reading. There’s a preview of HBO, Cinamax this weekend so I watched Girls.  It’s not a bad show, it’s like Sex and the City for younger women.  I’m not sure I can relate to any of the characters though. Saturday night I watched Hitchcock.  I loved this movie. I thought Anthony Hopkins and Helen Miren were fabulous. I enjoyed the movie with some hot chocolate with a little Irish Cream.
And snuggled with my bubby Harley.

The only time I left the house Saturday was to go out and get some salt for my drive way and sidewalks. Thankfully we didn’t get any of the snow that the weathermen called for. We were supposed to get 2 inches. That would have been horrible to remove. I ran to HomeDepot and picked up 62 pounds of salt.  The weather this winter has been frustrating.  It seems like every time I make plans Mother Nature overrides them with her plans.
Sunday, after crappy night’s sleep, I was up by 6:30 and out of bed by 7:00.  I made some toast and snuggled on the couch with Harley and watched TV.  Around 12:30, I started making my braised beef for dinner.  I ran to Target to get a few last minute things needed for dinner.  I came home and flipped the beef and my dad stopped over a little later for dinner. I’ll have a post later for how I made the braised beef this week.

We watched part of the Denver/San Diego game while the beef was finishing up and my potatoes were boiling.

It was nice having dinner at my place.  I don’t do it too often but it was a nice change of pace.

After my dad left I made dessert.  I had picked up some strawberries and raspberries and cooked them in Chambord and drizzled the hot sauce over some french vanilla ice cream.  I’ll have more on this later this week.

It was a nice weekend to not have any plans. and really just relax and have “me” time. But according to the weather report, we’re going to get another 4 to 7 inches of snow tomorrow.  After a nice break from snow removal, it looks like I’m gonna have a lot more snow to remove.

  1. Wow, your post is making me hungry. What is Baked Mostaccioli? It's looks delicious and pretty easy to make. I tend to stick with pastas because it's easy enough for me to cook. I'm trying to cook more, but sometimes it's tempting to just pick up something from the restaurant nearby. If you have any good recipes/tips for a newbie, please let me know!

  2. Thank you! Baked Mostaccioli is a super easy baked pasta dish. My brother introduced me to it! I totally get what you mean about picking something up at a restaurant. With busy schedules, it's can be so much easier just to grab something on the way home. I'll have my recipes up later this week. 🙂
