DIY Large Zinc Inspired Letters

As part of Greg’s moving gift, I painted him and Betsy a “G” and “B” to look like a large decorative zinc letter. You’ve seen the ones that range from $18.00-$98.00 from Anthropologie.  Very pretty but too pricey for me.

Anthropologie’s Version

My version cost me about $6.50.  Each letter was $2.99, I also needed the sliver paint I grabbed a bottle of Martha Stewart  Silver Metallic Paint for $2.49 and a few other things. I already had black paint from previous projects.

I took the raw “B” and “G” and painted each black, making sure to cover the letters completely.

By the time the second letter was painted, the first one was dry.  I dry brushed, or at least my attempt to dry brush, the silver on it.  The tricky part is making sure you don’t have too much paint on the brush.  You want to have enough paint to cover the black, but not cover it completely.  When painting the silver over the black, you don’t want to paint in any sort of pattern.

Finished “G” and black “B”. While the letters were adorning my sofa table, I realized they were G.B., I told Greg they could stand for Greg and Betsy or Green Bay, which ever they choose.

I bought myself some daffodils to brighten up my day.

The finished product.

I hope that Greg and Betsy like them along with the picture frames I got them.

I am thinking of making some of my own.  I just don’t know what I want to do, I think I may do something for my craft room.
