Baby it’s Cold Outside!
I was asked by the people over at Parachute Home write about my favorite things that help me cozy up and get through the cold winter days. Before I decided to check out their site before agreeing to write this post. If money were no object, these are the types of bedding I would have. They look cozy and inviting and not stuffy. They look like the kind of bedding I could lay around all day in, with a good book and Harley, and not feel guilty.
My recipe base is simple: 1 cup milk, 1 cup heavy whipping cream, about 4 ounces chocolate, chopped, 1/2 to 1 tablespoon sugar. I use bittersweet or dark chocolate, and milk chocolate in a ratio 1 to 1. If I’m in the mood for a little extra kick, I’ll add peppermint or chili powder and cayenne for a Mexican hot chocolate. If it’s after hours and I need a little stress relief from a long day at work, I might add some peppermint infused vodka, Irish cream or other flavored vodka.
There are times when Hot Chocolate won’t cut it and I need an caffeinated pick me up. That’s when make a cappuccino or latte. For Christmas my brother Greg and his fiancé Betsy gave me an espresso maker. I’ve been practicing using the steamer and experimenting with making my own flavors. Now I don’t have to get bundled up to go and get a latte or cappuccino, I can make one right at home.
My lazy day ensemble includes warm fleece pants (my Packer pants), a hoodie (a Packer, Brewers or Marquette) and warm (and fun) socks to keep my feet warm. There is nothing worse than cold feet. I have no shortage of warm socks. Some are more whimsical, like my fox socks and some are more utilitarian, like my boot socks, or the ones I use when I have to be outside for long periods of time. No matter what, my toes aren’t getting cold!
You also need a good blanket. Right now my go to blanket is my purple blanket I got as a gift two Christmases ago from Betsy. Harley loves this blanket, maybe more than I do. He will hijack it by biting it and kneading, making it “his”. I’m also working on an afghan. I’m just over half way done.
I like to watch movies or TV shows I have the DVDs. Some of my favorite things to watch includes The Office, The West Wing, the Harry Potter series and Pride and Prejudice.
I’m currently reading “Yes Please”, by Amy Poehler and the 8th book in the Outlander series Written in My Own Heart’s Blood” on my nook. I can’t wait to see where Jamie and Claire’s story takes them and find out what happens to Brianna and Roger. I just finished “This is Where I Leave You”, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There are books that I can reread, and those include the “Harry Potter Series”, “The Diary of Anne Frank”, “Pride and Prejudice”, and “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” (because if Lizzy Bennet is ready for the Zombie Apocalypse, I should be too).
But my favorite of all is to snuggle and nap with is this little fella, Harley. He basically takes over any blanket or whatever I’m working on, or gets all up in my face, but I’ll take it. Snuggling with him makes my day. He really loves the attention and to claim my blankets (and me) as his. But I can’t deny his cuteness.
